Let’s Talk Outdoor Dog Safety
Share Your Story. Send a Tip. Recommend a Product.
Dogs are born for the outdoors. They want to run, sniff, explore, chase squirrels, splash through streams, and follow every interesting smell they find. But while your dog may know exactly where they want to go, they don’t know that the water ahead could be contaminated, the plant beside the trail could be toxic, or the sunny pavement could cause heatstroke. Whether you hike in the Rockies, walk along a beach in Australia, or explore forests in Europe—the principles of outdoor dog safety are the same, even if the dangers look different. That’s why keeping them safe is our job—and why we’re always happy to hear from fellow dog owners, wherever you are in the world.
You can reach us anytime using the form below, or email us directly at hello@outdoordogsafety.com. We read every single message and reply within 24 hours.
At OutdoorDogSafety.com, we believe the best safety advice doesn’t come from one person. It comes from people who have been there, walked that trail, noticed that hidden hazard, or learned an important lesson the hard way.
So, we’d love to hear from you.
Have a Safety Tip to Share?
Since launching, we’ve collected over 150 tips from dog owners like you—but we know there’s always more to learn.
Maybe you’ve discovered a simple trick that makes hiking with your dog safer. Maybe you always carry something in your pack that has saved the day more than once. Maybe you’ve figured out how to keep your dog away from dangerous water, handle hot-weather walks, spot wildlife before your dog does, or safely navigate a difficult trail.
Whatever you’ve learned, we’d love to hear about it.
You don’t have to be a professional trainer, veterinarian, or outdoor expert. You’re a dog owner who spends time outside with your pup—and sometimes, real-world experience teaches you things you can’t find in a textbook.
Share your practical tips with us.
Your experience might help another dog parent avoid an accident, make a better decision, or simply feel more prepared before heading outdoors.
That’s what this community is really about: learning from each other and looking out for the dogs we love.
Have a Question?
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “Is this actually safe for my dog?”, you’re not alone. We’ve answered over 300 questions from dog owners so far, and we’re always ready for more.
Maybe your dog drank from a stream during a hike and you’re wondering what to watch for. Maybe you’re planning your first camping trip with your dog. Perhaps you spotted a snake on your usual walking route, or you’re not sure how hot is too hot for your dog’s paws.
Send us your question.
We can’t promise that every question will have a simple answer, and we won’t pretend to know everything. When a question involves a dog’s health or an urgent situation, professional veterinary advice should always come first.
But your questions can help us identify topics that deserve clearer, more practical information on the site.
Sometimes the question one dog owner is afraid to ask is exactly the question hundreds of other people are wondering about, too.
What Did We Miss?
This one is especially important to us.
What outdoor dangers haven’t we covered yet?
We’ve covered 40+ outdoor hazards on the site so far—but no matter how much research we do, we know we can’t think of everything. There are different climates, trails, neighborhoods, parks, wildlife, weather conditions, and outdoor activities across different regions and around the world.
You might know about a hazard we’ve never encountered.
Maybe you’ve seen dogs get into trouble around a particular type of plant. Maybe there’s a trail hazard that visitors regularly overlook. Maybe you’ve discovered a safer way to cross a busy road, deal with extreme weather, or prepare your dog for an outdoor adventure.
Tell us what we’re missing.
If you notice something that doesn’t look right—or something you think every dog owner should know—we want to hear about it.
Our goal isn’t to build a website that claims to have all the answers. It’s to build a useful, constantly improving resource where dog owners from everywhere can learn from one another.
Because when it comes to keeping dogs safe outside, nobody knows everything.
Share Your Dog With Us
And yes, we’d love to see your dog, too.
Send us a photo of your pup enjoying the outdoors.
Maybe they’re standing proudly at the top of a mountain. Maybe they’re covered in mud after discovering the world’s greatest puddle. Maybe they’re sitting beside you at a campsite, sniffing every inch of a hiking trail, or simply enjoying their favorite patch of grass in the backyard.
It doesn’t have to be a perfect photograph.
We’re interested in the moments that show what being a dog is really about: curiosity, freedom, adventure, and being right there beside their favorite person.
You can attach a photo directly to the form below, or tag us on Instagram @OutdoorDogSafety—we’d love to feature your pup in our community gallery.
Let's Help More Dogs Come Home Safe
We started OutdoorDogSafety.com because we believe prevention is better than regret.
Dogs don’t understand cliffs, traffic, extreme heat, toxic plants, contaminated water, snakes, or wildlife the way we do. They simply see another place to explore.
That’s what makes them wonderful.
And that’s also why they need us to pay attention.
A few seconds of awareness can sometimes make all the difference. Checking the pavement before a walk. Keeping your dog away from unfamiliar water. Recognizing the signs of overheating. Looking ahead on a trail. Taking one extra moment before letting your dog run free.
You can’t prevent every accident. None of us can.
But many accidents are preventable.
So if you’ve got a tip, a question, a warning, a story, or a photo of your four-legged adventurer, please reach out.
Let’s keep learning, keep sharing, and keep looking out for the dogs who trust us to see the dangers they can’t.
Because prevention is always better than regret—and keeping our dogs safe outdoors starts with all of us.
